The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) finds adoptive homes for children and teens waiting in foster care. A private non-profit agency founded in 1957, MARE develops public awareness and recruitment programs to inform the public about the children who wait, and the process of adoption from foster care. These programs are used to attract and support potential adoptive families and match them with specific waiting children.

Major responsibilities of the Child Services Coordinator role include:

 

  • Partner with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to develop and administer individual child recruitment plans for a caseload of 100+ children/teens in foster care waiting for adoptive homes
  • Relationship and coalition building with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and social workers from other agencies through regular communication and outreach, facilitation of meetings, and community engagement
  • Gathering information and creating written profiles for waiting children and teens to be viewed by prospective families and their social workers
  • Responding to inquiries from prospective families about specific waiting youth and providing general adoption information
  • Identifying potential matches for specific waiting children and teens utilizing MARE’s database of waiting families, and coordination of targeted outreach campaigns through social media, television and print media, and community partnerships
  • Following the progress of each child towards a successful placement, including creating updates and case notes in MARE’s custom database
  • Planning events with the goal of connecting prospective families, social workers, and waiting children and teens

 

This is one of six positions that make up the Child Services Team. This Child Services Coordinator position covers a caseload for the Northern Region of the state. The role does not involve direct work with children but rather collaborative work with DCF and contracted adoption agency social workers on behalf of youth in foster care. Supervision is provided. The position is based out of MARE’s Newton office.

 

At this time MARE staff are working remotely due to pandemic. Once a return to the office is safe, the position will require a routine presence in MARE’s Newton office and regular travel throughout the Northern Region. The Child Services Coordinator must have access to a reliable car. Some planned evening and weekend commitments are required.

The Child Services Coordinator must have a bachelor's degree and experience in Human Services. Familiarity with the child welfare system and a master’s degree is preferred. The Child Services Coordinator must have strong computer, written/verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. The Child Services Coordinator must be creative, adaptable, self-motivated and able to work both independently and as a team member.  Candidates must be mission-driven and share MARE's urgency for finding permanency for all children and teens who wait, through innovation, compassion and collaboration.
